Rodent Control Location : Syarikat Gean Ming S/B

RODENTS

There are three major domestic rodents in Malaysia, the house mouse, the Norway rat and the Roof rat. Rat and mice contaminate much more than they eat, with the result that infested or damaged food products must be destroyed.

House mouse, Mus musculus

The house mouse has a keen sense of touch, smell, and hearing. It can run, jump, and swim well. Each male mouse stakes out a territory around his nest. He may not travel more than 3 m from his nest if food is near by. Mice are not suspicious of new foods and eagerly sample them. Females are capable of breeding again 3 to 6 weeks after giving birth, and usually average 6 - 8 litters each year. Mice can survive small amount of water.

Norway Rats, Rattus norvegicus.

The rats are larger than the other species of rats, and when it invades an area it may force out other species. This rats can be distinguished by its large body, small ears, and the fact that the tail is shorter than the head and body together. They prefer food with high carbohydrate and protein content.

Norway rats have a life span of 6 - 12 months. The young reach sexual maturity in about 3 months, and they can breed once each month. A female produces an average is 3 to 6 litters and 6 to 8 young per litters. The Norway rat frequently nests outdoors in underground burrows, and less often indoors. Rats nesting outdoors will forage for food indoors at night and return to their burrows after feeding.

Roof Rats, Rattus rattus

The roof rat often found in urban areas, and along the coast. They are excellent climbers and may build their nests in trees and vines, but they will also nest inside buildings, in ground burrows, and under piles of rubbish.

Roof rats have life span of about 8 months. The young reach sexual maturity in 2 - 3 months, and they can breed as often as once each month. A female may produce an average of 4 to 6 litters and about 10 young per litter.

Control Strategies

The most effective strategy for rodents control is to change the infested environment to make it less favorable for them. Rodents control begins with increasing the level of sanitation in the infested structure, and preventing rodents from entering. In addition to sanitation, there are chemical and non-chemical methods that can be used for control.

Stick Traps can be used to monitor for the presence of rodents in a structure, and for reducing small populations.

Storm Rodenticide is put on the glue board to attract rodents.

Acute rodenticides often affect the rodents within 24 hours, however a lethal amount must be eaten. If a lethal amount is not eaten, the individual rat or mouse will become ill, but will not die. These rodent control chemicals often result in a large portion of the rodent population avoiding the baits (bait shyness), and long-term control is not achieved.

The anticoagulant type rodenticides provide kill of rats and mice within about 10 days and usually one-meal. They do not have to eat a large amount of the toxic bait. This helps to eliminate the potential of bait shyness and improves control, There are several different methods of delivering the anticoagulant rodenticides, usually they are formulated in granular or bait block.

Anticoagulant type rodenticides is placed at strategic location.

General Pest Control Services LOCATION : MYNY Enterprise Sdn. Bhd.

SCOPE OF WORK

( 1 ) COCKROACHES

Cockroaches prefer warm and moist habitat close to food sources.  They congregate in crevices near the kitchen and toilets. They are disease carrying pests and they pose a grave threat to our health capable of spreading diseases such as dysentery, diphtheria, typhoid and hepatitis. They feed and breed in highly unhygienic environment.

COCKROACHES MANAGEMENT CONTROL

Residual insecticide treatment/surface spray is applied to all external areas of the building such as entrance, walk ways, loading area, rubbish dump area, etc.

Chemical Used & Active Ingredient
( i ) Eventus ( Alpha-cypermethrin )

( 2 ) COMMON ANTS

Ants are nuisance pests. The presence of ants in food and drink can be irritating to many people. Some ant species are of medical importance because they carry stings that can cause pustules and blisters and they have the potential to transmit pathogenic organisms to humans.

ANTS MANAGEMENT CONTROL

Residual insecticide treatment / surface treatment  is apply to all external areas of the building such as entrance, walk way, loading area, rubbish dumping area, etc. to reduce and to eradicate the ants’ colonies outside the building area in order to reduce and to eradicate the ants’ colonies around the perimeter of the building.

Chemical Used & Active Ingredient

( 3 ) RODENTS

Rats are disease carrying pest which live breed in highly unhygienic conditions. By gnawing through electrical wirings, they can cause fire to the premises.

RODENTS MANAGEMENT CONTROL

( a )  First Line of defence

3 nos. of Tamper Resistant Rat Bait Stations ( TRBS ) which are included glue board and are placed at strategic position and on semi-permanent basis outside the perimeter of the food production area.
These baits will be checked monthly, in order to remain fresh and palatable to the rodents.

( b ) Second Line of Defence

We suggest use the latest anti-coagulant rodents, the Storm baits which will be placed at strategic places inside the building and it will take a few days for the baits to be effective.

Chemical Used & Active Ingredient
( i )  Storm ( Flocoumafen ) or ;
( ii ) Ebor 401 ( Bromadiolone )

EXTERMINEX TERMITE BAITING STATIONS ( Above - Ground )

WHAT IS ABOVE-GROUND EXTERMINEX TERMITE BAITING STATIONS?

Above-ground (AG) Exterminex Termite Baiting Station is a professional subterranean termites eradicating baiting system. It is a permanent solution in protecting the building from all major species of subterranean termites because it works by eliminating the entire colonies while being non-destructive to the building.

HOW DOES THE ABOVE-GROUND (AG) EXTERMINEX  BAITING  STATIONS WORK?

Exterminex Baiting System Stations that contain the slow acting toxicants are placed on the termites trials of the building. The toxicants are insect growth regulators ( IGR ), that is, insect growth hormones that inhibit the making of chitin, a substance required for the insect’s hard outer coat and egg shells.

The bait stations are to be inspected regularly for the duration of the service agreement and additional baits are introduced in the stations when the toxicants had already consumed by the termites.

Several species such as Coptotermes spp. and Schedorhinotermes spp. responded well to the baits.

Step 1 : Shows the acting toxicants is placed inside the empty baiting station.
Step 2 : Cover up the wall-attached station on the termites' mud trail.
Step 3 : Be patient and letting the termites lure into the baiting station.
Step 4 : Termites are successfully lured into the baiting station and the toxicants are slowly consumed.

The following video shown the progress of the termites which are consuming the toxicants in the baiting station.

Corrective Treatment / Post-construction Treatment

CORRECTIVE OR POST-CONSTRUCTION TREATMENT

The objective of this treatment is to termite-proof a building against subterranean termite’s infestation by creating a termiticidial barrier of up to 40 mm thick around the perimeter ground beams and columns of the building.

In order to reach the soil under slab-on-ground building, it is necessary to drill holes through the slab to inject termiticidial fluid.

Drilling is accomplished by heavy-duty “rotary hammer” drill type and holes of 20 mm diameter are usually drilled.

The holes are drilled just over 150 mm from the vertical wall and these holes spaced 800 mm apart.

Internal foundation walls or any internal wall extending downwards into the soil will be treated in the same way as given above by spaced drilling and injection of insecticide.

5 litres of termiticide at the correct concentration will be injected under pressure into each hole so drilled.

EFFECTIVENESS / WARRANTY

On completion of the job, METRO PEST CONTROL SERVICES will issue a certificate of warranty for THREE  (3) YEARS.

The below images show the process of the treatment
